Welcome to Women's and Infants' Health!

DWIH works to prevent illness and promote health among women and infants in Virginia by:

• reducing infant mortality and morbidity;
• assessing and promoting the prenatal and perinatal health of infants and women;
• educating young adults about the benefits of having children within a marriage;
• assuring local health departments provide family planning services;
• supporting and educating young parents raising healthy babies;
• coordinating a statewide program for screening, education and medical management of sickle cell disease;
  
• coordinating a statewide program to detect breast and cervical cancer in the early stages;
• developing programs, policies and educational activities to further this goal, and
• serving as a resource to local health departments and policy makers.
