Storing
How you store your groceries is important for food safety. Taking care of how and where you store your groceries can keep you and your family from getting sick. Follow these tips to keep food safe at your home.
Seperate
Keep meat, poultry, and seafood away from other foods in your refrigerator. Put
raw foods on a plate in the refrigerator to keep any juices from dripping on other
foods. Also, store raw foods on the lowest level of your refrigerator so that bacteria
cannot spread to other foods.
Chill
Make sure your refrigerator is between 35 and 40 F. Your freezer should be at or
below 0 F. Also, space items in your refrigerator apart so that air can flow easily.
Use any steaks, roasts, chops, or deli meats within 3-4 days of purchase. Use ground
meat or poultry within 1-2 days.

Store eggs in their container on a shelf in your refrigerator, not in the door.
Keep perishable foods in a cooler while cleaning or defrosting your refrigerator.
Leftovers
Divide large amounts of leftovers into small containers so that they will chill
more quickly in the refrigerator.
Freeze any leftovers that will not be eaten within a few days.
Remove the stuffing from stuffed meats and refrigerate separately.
