The Facts of Heart Healthy Beans
Beans are not boring.
If the only bean dish you can think of is pork and beans, you are missing out on a variety of chilies, bean soups, baked beans casseroles, and Mexican dishes like burritos, tacos, and enchiladas.
Many other countries use beans as a staple food, much in they way we use potatoes,
having them once a day, sometimes with every meal.
There are many classes, sizes, and colors of beans. Their use in the diet is only limited by the cook's imagination and knowledge. Try to find a favorite canned bean and include it in weekly menus either as a vegetable or main dish.
A side dish of plain, baked, or spiced beans eaten with a sandwich instead of chips will increase the meal's nutrition and lower the fat.
