• get early and adequate prenatal care;
• avoid drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and promote healthy behaviors and eating;
• finish school, obtain a GED, and find or continue employment;
• involve her family and the father in creating a stable, nurturing home for her child;
• get immunizations for her baby and learn about child development and keeping her child safe, e.g., safety seats;
• assist her in obtaining Medicaid, WIC and other community services;
• develop plans for the baby's care while she is at work or school; and
• delay future pregnancies until she is better able to care for her child and herself.
