Other services provided by the Virginia Department of Health:
- Resource Mothers are lay community workers who assure pregnant teens get the prenatal care they need to have a healthy baby and support them in learning to be a good parent. The VHSI supports the expansion of this program to include young adults and the baby's father.
- BabyCare is providing intensive case management to pregnant women at high risk of poor birth outcomes.
- Regional Perinatal Councils are developing partnerships to shape the behaviors of the community as well as individuals.
- Fetal Infant Mortality Reviews explore the causes of a baby's death so steps can be taken to prevent them in the future.
- The Virginia Folic Acid Campaign encourages pergnant women to take folic acid to prevent birth defects and increase the birth weight of infants.
