American Cancer Society
This site provides information on various types of cancers and prevention and treatment methods. Statistics and free materials too.

American Dietetic Association
Offers a wide range of books, pamphlets and resources for consumers and professionals. Links you to registered dietitians for reliable, objective nutrition information.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Provides data and statistics, publications, disease reports, traveler's health information, grant opportunities, guidelines to prevent disease, injuries and disabilities.

Children Nutrition Research Center
Dedicated to finding the nutrient needs of healthy children and pregnant and nursing women. Offers on-line newsletter regarding nutrition and your child. Provides research summaries. Site is sponsored by Baylor College of Medicine. Is one of six U.S. Department of Agriculture human nutrition research centers.

The Coalition on Donation
This is a not-for-profit alliance of national organizations and local
coalitions across the United States, dedicated to education the public
about organ and tissue donation. The Virginia Transplant Council is a proud member of the Coalition on Donation.

Federal Health Publications
Developed by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Healthfinder is a free gateway to reliable consumer health and human services information. Provides links to on-line publications, clearinghouses, databases, government agencies and not-for-profit organizations.

Food and Drug Administration
Provides wealth of information for consumers, women, health professionals and government officials on food, drugs, and children and tobacco.

Food and Nutrition Information Center
Provides nutrition publications. Is excellent "jumping off point" for other sources of nutrition reports and studies and information regarding adolescents, breastfeeding, diabetes, fitness, vitamins and more.

The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)
Aa nonprofit charitable organization, UNOS maintains the nation's organ transplant waiting list under contract with the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Located in Richmond, Virginia, UNOS brings together, under that contract and on behalf of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), medical professionals, transplant recipients and donor families to develop organ and transplantation policy.

U.S. Department of Agriculture
Information on government nutrition assistance programs including WIC.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
This department is America's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans. It provides essential human services information on 300 programs including those that deal with preventing disease, assure food and drug safety, improve maternal and infant health, prevent child abuse and domestic violence.

U.S. Government Statistics
Provides links to statistics collected by 101 federal agencies including National Center for Health Statistics, Administration for Children and Families, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Virginia Information and Referral Web Site
Lists local providers of a wide range of human service needs who deal with such topics as lead poisoning prevention, parenting, pregnancy prevention, public health, rape/sexual assault, special needs children and WIC.

HRSA's Women's Health Office
Outlines the role of the Health Resources and Services Administration's role in promoting the health of women and girls. Provides links to other sites and publications on women's health.
