Get Alarmed, Virginia!

fire alarm safety

The Get Alarmed, Virginia! program is a fire safety education and smoke alarm distribution program for the prevention of fire related injuries and deaths among high risk groups. The program provides funding and technical assistance to local communities to support the following prevention strategies:

  • Increasing the number of homes with working smoke alarms
  • Increasing the number of residents who plan and practice a fire escape plan
  • Increasing the number of residents who test their smoke alarms monthly

Since its implementation in 1998, the Get Alarmed, Virginia! program has been credited with saving the lives of more than 117 men, women and children across the Commonwealth of Virginia and preventing millions of dollars in property loss.
