School-Based Injury Prevention

2 boys on bleachers

The Division collaborates with the Virginia Department of Education and other organizations to provide educators with information, project ideas, curricula and other resources to provide safe school environments, develop safety skills among Virginia's youth and to get youth involved in community injury prevention. The Division supports the Health Smart! Virginia Website, a Department of Education resource for teachers on health and safety activities and curricula, and works to assist schools in meeting national injury and violence prevention standards (i.e. Safe Schools and Safe Students in Virginia).

"Promoting healthy and safe behaviors among students is an important part of the fundamental mission of schools, which is to provide young people with the knowledge and skills they need to become healthy and productive adults."
