Virginia Injury Prevention Plan

The Division of Injury and Violence Prevention was awarded a grant in 2005 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to strengthen injury prevention and control programs and activities in Virginia.

The Virginia Injury Community Planning Group and the Division's 2008-2013 Unintentional Injury Prevention Strategic Plan were created using these funds. Improvements in the use of injury data and other critical competencies of injury prevention by those in the prevention, first response, treatment, rehabilitation, and other community stakeholders were realized.

The Division maintains an active role in sustaining statewide injury prevention activities that originated from the community planning process and the CDC grant in order to address the leading causes of unintentional injury in the Commonwealth.
