For the third year in a row, the Virginia Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program received a rating of "Excellent" from the National Campaign for Hearing Health. This award was given to those states documenting a minimum screening rate of 95.0% and an established system of follow-up

All hospitals in the state are now universally screening newborns prior to discharge and are reporting the results to the Virginia Department of Health, as required by law.
