School-Age Oral Health Education

The Division of Dental Health promotes oral health as an integral part of overall health.  Since the beginning of the state dental program in Virginia in 1921, oral health education has been recognized as the foundation of health promotion and disease prevention.

The Division of Dental Health continues to promote oral health education by:

• Training school personnel, and other community partners
• Developing oral health curriculums for schools related to the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) for Virginia Public Schools
• Training Medical/Dental Professionals about oral health education
• Developing and distributing appropriate educational material
