Quality Assurance Program

In Fiscal Year '04 Virginia Department of Health (VDH) dental programs had 44 full-time dentists, 61dental assistants and four dental hygienists providing services to 76 localities through the Local Health Districts in Community Health Services. As a result of their work, 25,749 individuals received dental services in a total of 54,640 patient visits. The Division of Dental Health administers a program of quality assurance for the VDH dental programs operating in local health departments. This program helps assure quality patient care and community service operation.

The Division of Dental Health supports quality assurance of public health dental programs through:

• The Manual of Operations for Public Health Dental clinics in Virginia.
• On-site quality assurance review for VDH Public Health Dental Programs.
• Expertise regarding public health dental practice and procedure.
• A semi-annual statistical report for each dentist and locality in Virginia with a VDH public health dental program.
