Child Trends has put together a report focusing on statutory rape. This data brief focuses on statutory rape - sexual intercourse between a young teen and an older partner.  The purpose of this brief is to summarize newly available data from the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth to provide information on the prevalence of statutory rape in first sexual relationships among females and males; trends in statutory rape relationships among females; the link between family background and statutory rape; and problem behaviors associated with statutory rape.

The State Legislator's Handbook for Statutory Rape Issues is designed to help State legislators develop effective and enforceable statutory rape laws that can and will be used to prosecute offenders and prevent occurrences of the crime.  This Handbook provides a framework for developing and analyzing legislation that would make sexual intercourse with a minor a crime based on the age of the minor.  Its purpose is to assist legislators and policymakers who are amending their statutory rape laws. While each State must determine what laws to pass, this Handbook provides a framework for discussing and considering the issues..

 

Victim-Oriented Multidisciplinary Responses to Statutory Rape: Training Guide (Office for Victims of Crime, 2000)

This Training Guide contains practical suggestions to increase the reporting of statutory rapes, to improve investigations and prosecutions of statutory rapes, to improve treatment of statutory rape victims and offenders, and to develop sound sentencing practices to guide judges in statutory rape cases.

 

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) announces
the availability of "Statutory Rape Known to Law Enforcement." Written by
Karyl Troup-Leasure, Ph.D., Research Associate, and Howard N. Snyder, Ph.D.,
Director of Systems Research, National Center for Juvenile Justice, this
four-page Bulletin draws on the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting
System to provide a comprehensive view of statutory rape.

Deriving its data from reports from law enforcement agencies in 21 states
for the period 1996 to 2000, the Bulletin characterizes victim and offender
attributes and law enforcement responses to incidents of statutory rape.
