Rape Prevention
and Education Projects, 2007-2008
In Fiscal Year 2008
(November 2007-October 2008), the Virginia Department of Health/Division
for Injury and Violence Prevention (DIVP) contracted with
14 sexual assault crisis centers in Virginia to provide primary
prevention programs in their communities. A total of $559,162 was awarded. Funding for this program was provided to DIVP
from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Rape
Prevention and Education (RPE) program. For Fiscal Year 2008,
DIVP issued contract renewals for the primary prevention of
sexual violence through one of four possible methods - intensive
youth programming/peer education, multi-session programs,
train-the-trainer programs, and community education. Community
education is being provided, on a limited basis, by all the
agencies. The following information provides a brief synopsis
of each agency's specific projects. For additional information,
