Virginia Statistics

  • The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), an on-going telephone health survey system, tracks health conditions and risk behaviors of adults in the United States. In 2005 and 2006, the Virginia BRFSS survey included questions on Sexual Violence. The BRFSS fact sheet on Sexual Violence 2005-2006 uses the data from 2005 and 2006 to estimate the extent of sexual violence among Virginian adults 18 and older.

  • View the legislative report, Response to and Prevention of Sexual Assault in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the study commissioned by the General Assembly requesting the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to study the statewide response to sexual assault victims and the prevention of sexual assault.

  • The Sexual Violence in Virginia Report addresses sexual violence in the Commonwealth of Virginia. There is no single data source that describes the incidence of sexual violence in Virginia. The data included in this report are from a variety of sources, but still only represent a fraction of the total victims because sexual violence is such an underreported crime. View the 2005, 2004, and 2003 reports.
  • Family and Intimate Partner Homicide in Virginia Report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  View the 2004 report.
  • Violent Death in Virginia, a report from the Virginia Violent Death reporting system.  View the 2004 report.
