OFHSBuckle Up Virginia! has several different components for communities and other statewide audiences focused on the proper use of safety restraints in motor vehicles.
·Low Income Safety Seat Distribution and Education Program: This free program promotes and distributes child safety seats to eligible families who could not afford them.
·Safety Seat Inspection Events: At these statewide events, certified inspectors will inspect car seats as they are currently installed within a vehicle ensuring they are installed properly.
·Child Passenger Safety Trainings: This component oversees the regional training of nationally certified child passenger safety technicians. Other specialized trainings are also conducted pertaining to the safe transportation of children with special needs, children on school buses and those transported by child care providers.
·Public Information Campaigns: Multiple public information campaigns are focused on various target audiences throughout the year to increase the awareness of child passenger safety issues.

  • Child Passenger Safety Week 2008 September 21st – 28th 2008 Through education, training, enforcement, and community outreach, Virginia Department of Health seeks to ensure that all children ages 0-16 are properly restrained in an appropriate restraint system for their age and size every time they travel in a motor vehicle. While great progress has been achieved in recent years in preventing child occupant deaths and injuries, and increasing the correct use of child safety seats, booster seats and safety belts motor vehicle crashes are still the leading cause of death among children.

  • NHTSA/Ad Council booster seat campaign http://www.adcouncil.org/campaigns/Seat_Belt_Education/

    The site houses newly developed public service announcements (PSAs), available in both English and Spanish, featuring characters from the animated classic film, "Cinderella." These PSAs are a joint effort of NHTSA, the Ad Council and Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
