2007-2008 Communities

Arlington County Fire Department

The Arlington County Fire Department provides both fire and EMS services for its citizens.  Arlington is about 26 square miles and is located directly across the Potomac River from Washington DC.  Arlington has an estimated population of 204,800 and about 35% of Arlington’s residents are Hispanic/Latino, African-American, Asian or multi-racial.  Almost one-quarter of residents were born outside of the United States.  The Department will install alarms in households referred by at least six social service agencies that work with low income consumers.  Arlington County Fire Department anticipates installing 2,460 smoke alarms and enrolling over 2,000 households.

Dinwiddie Fire & EMS

Dinwiddie Fire & EMS is responsible for emergency services throughout Dinwiddie County.  Dinwiddie County has a population of 25,391 that resides within a 504 square mile radius.  12 percent of the population is over 65 years of age.  The Department will partner with 400 Ruritan volunteers who will canvass the County and install smoke alarms in eligible households.  Dinwiddie Fire & EMS anticipates installing 3,000 smoke alarms and enrolling an estimated 2,400 households by the end of the project period.
