Strategic Plan
The Virginia Unintentional Injury Prevention
Strategic Plan will provide priorities, target populations,
and measurable goals for the prevention of traumatic brain,
spinal cord, asphyxiation, burn, poison, and fracture injuries.
Prevention strategies around the leading causes of these injuries
(i.e. falls, drowning, suffocation) will be addressed. The
overall goals, recommendations, and strategies will provide
the foundation of the Plan. Transportation safety, violence
against women, and suicide prevention will be mentioned where
appropriate as being leading causes of injury; however they
will not be included in the discussion of prevention. State
strategic plans currently exist that address these leading
causes of unintentional and intentional injury. The first
draft of the Plan will be ready for peer review in 2007.
