Living Longer, Living Better: You Can Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke

The Living Longer, Living Better Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention community education kit is a tool to assist you in providing education on preventing heart disease and stroke to Hispanic/Latino community members. This resource, adapted from a well-received cancer prevention tool kit, utilizes a calendar format, with each participant calendar including information on heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and general recommendations for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Each month provides a goal and space for participants to choose a strategy to meet each monthly goal. The line-drawing artwork was designed to involve children in the family by providing a fun “coloring book” style in which children can make their mark.This calendar style is designed to encourage use of kit materials beyond a program session.
A Leader’s Guide version of the calendar is also provided. Each section is used to provide important information, facts and “talking points” designed to teach and promote discussion.
All content in both guides is provided in English and Spanish.The kit also includes additional resources to assist you in providing information to your community. Each tool kit includes the following:
