Virginia Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Project
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) fund the Virginia Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (HDSP) Project to implement heart disease and stroke prevention and control initiatives through systems change, environmental and policy support, application of a state HDSP strategic action plan, expansion of a state HDSP Coalition, defining the burden of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) in Virginia, and working to reduce racial and ethnic disparities related to CVD.

Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Programs
The Virginia Department of Health's HDSP Project funds local programs to provide community-based prevention/intervention projects focused on the reduction of CVD. These projects focus on promoting secondary prevention and control of heart attacks and strokes.

Updating of the State CVD Risk Reduction Plan entitled "Virginia's Plan for the Prevention of CVD 1998-2010"
Developing Virginia's Stroke Systems Task Force recommendations in partnership with the Virginia chapter of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association
Supporting development and implementation of a statewide faith-based program to address heart disease, stroke and diabetes prevention
Providing resources, professional education, training and technical assistance on HDSP issues
