Virginia Asthma Control Project (VACP)

In 2001, the Virginia Asthma Control Project (VACP) was created by the Virginia Department of Health to reduce the increasing burden of Asthma in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VACP is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and administered by the Virginia Department of Health's Division of Chronic Disease and Prevention and Control.

The mission of the Virginia Asthma Control Project is to improve the health of all Virginian's by reducing the impact of asthma. We are working to expand and improve services in the following areas:

• Track, collect, and analyze data on an ongoing basis to increase knowledge about asthma occurrence and needs.
• Support interventions that improve the quality and standards of Asthma Treatment and Management based on the National Health Lung, Blood Institute Standards.
• Foster partnerships and collaborative relationships with individuals, organizations and systems that contribute to reducing the burden of asthma in Virginia
• Collaborate and give support to asthma coalitions throughout Virginia, including the Virginia Asthma Coalition as well as local asthma coalitions.
• Provide current asthma information to policy makers and other community partners to aid legislative decisions.
