Overview
Bright Futures was first published in 1994 with a second edition published in 2000. The materials were developed by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (Maternal and Child Health Bureau) in collaboration with public and private partners and have been endorsed by all major health care organizations.
Bright Futures materials have expanded over the years to include a series of Bright Futures in Practice guides. Each Practice guide covers a topic to a greater depth than the original Bright Futures Guidelines, discusses variations that may occur due to existing chronic illnesses, and includes patient/family education materials and tools for providers. Practice guides are available for Oral Health, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Mental Health.
Pocket Guides are available for the original Guidelines and Nutrition. Other materials include Activity Books for children, Health Record Forms, and Patient Encounter Forms for providers.
Bright Futures materials are available on the web at http://www.brightfutures.org or http://www.brightfutures.aap.org. Several publications are available in Spanish.
