Our Team
The Virginia Department of Health's Nutrition Services Team is a group
of energetic and enthusiastic public health nutritionists who are committed
to practicing and promoting good health. We are health professionals who
bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the area of nutrition.
Our Plan
- Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in our society as we super
size our food and decrease our level of physical activity. We are working
on a variety of exciting initiatives, including a project aimed at fighting
overweight in school age children. --more
- Are you eating enough fruits and veggies? You know eating more fruits
and veggies can lower your risk of cancer and heart disease not to mention
keep you regular! --more
- Breastfeeding promotes good health! We just completed focus groups
with moms and dads to see why they choose to breastfeed or bottlefeed.
This year we will use this information to develop ways to increase breastfeeding
rates among different cultures. --more
- We will continue to encourage all women to take enough folic
acid to prevent birth defects. Do you know how much folic acid you
need every day? All women of childbearing age should get 400 micrograms/day.
