Dietetic Internship Calendar

Part time employee rotation schedules varies according to the local health department needs, clinical schedules, and availability of staff coverage. Part time employee internship rotation schedules are planned on a case by case basis.

The Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Maryland recognize twelve holidays. In Virginia these are: New Year´s Day, Lee-Jackson Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President´s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day*, Columbus Day, Veteran´s Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Maryland observes Election Day (as designated, but not each year) but not Lee-Jackson Day. If the intern is scheduled to be at the district health department during one of these holidays, he/she will observe the holiday. When the intern is at an affiliate site rotation during a holiday, he/she may or may not observe the holiday, depending on the needs of the agency. *Labor Day does not fall during the Dietetic Internship Program.

Virginia interns may use 5 annual leave days during the internship. This time must be arranged with the intern�s supervisor and preceptor and should not be scheduled to interfere with the affiliate site rotations.

Other excused time off is sick and emergency leave, which is limited to three days during the program. If the student needs more time off, the length of the program will be appropriately adjusted.
