Rape & Sexual Violence Prevention

The Rape and Sexual Violence Prevention program coordinates a statewide effort to prevent rape, sexual violence, and dating violence. The program collects and analyzes prevalence data; provides training, education, and outreach; provides funding and technical assistance for primary prevention programming in local communities; and develops and promotes resources.

Major Projects Include:

Local Community Activities
The Virginia Department of Health contracts with twelve sexual violence advocacy agencies for the following types of primary prevention projects: intensive youth programming; multi-session, curriculum-based programs; train-the-trainer programs; community development; and community-based education. Information on current contractors is listed, along with projects that have previously received funding.

Dating Violence Prevention
The Dating Violence Prevention program provides information, training, and resources on dating violence prevention to professionals working with youth, teens, and college students. A number of free curricula can be found on our resource page.

Statutory Rape Prevention
The Statutory Rape Prevention program provides information, training and resource on statutory rape prevention to professionals working with youth. Information is also provided about the specific laws in Virginia that apply to statutory rape (not a legal term in Virginia). (En Español www.paramihija.com)

Men Ending Violence
Men Ending Violence focuses on engaging men and boys in reducing sexual violence through education, training, funding, and resources. The goal of Men Ending Violence is to invite men to participate in efforts to reduce sexual violence. As men begin to speak out against sexual violence they become part of the solution.
