Youth Suicide Prevention
The Division of Injury and Violence Prevention analyzes and reports on suicide data and coordinates statewide training for school personnel, human service providers, faith communities and others on suicide prevention and intervention, including identification of persons at-risk of suicide, screening, counseling and referral. Division also supports community based prevention planning and public awareness activities in partnership with four local sites and local crisis centers. The Division's suicide prevention activities, which predominantly focus on youth, are currently funded through the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, pursuant to the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act, and the Preventive Health & Health Services Block Grant.
This program is a prevention education and training program. For information on mental health related treatment and therapy options contact the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services or your local mental health provider.
