Childhood Sexual Assault Victimization in Virginia (August 2004)
The Center for Injury & Violence Prevention at the Virginia Department of Health undertook a comprehensive telephone survey regarding sexual assault in Virginia. Some of the key findings are:
Twenty-five percent of those surveyed were sexually victimized as children; for women, the figure was 27% and for men, 20%
Over half of women experienced sexual assault before the age of 13, as did 39% of men.
Almost half (43%) of the perpetrators were identified as family members.

The report includes injury deaths and hospitalizations by age, gender, race, hospital charges and length of stay. Also included are individual analysis of the leading causes of injury deaths and hospitalizations.
Annual Report on the Virginia Youth Suicide Prevention Plan: Youth suicide presents a serious, preventable health problem affecting the lives of young people across Virginia. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young Virginians aged 10-24 and is the third leading cause of death in that age group nationally.
