Strategic Plan

The 2008-2013 Virginia Unintentional Injury Prevention Strategic Plan provides priorities, target populations, and recommendations for the prevention of traumatic brain, spinal cord, asphyxiation, burn, poison, and fracture injuries. Prevention strategies around the leading causes of these injuries (i.e. falls, drowning, suffocation) are addressed. The overall goals, recommendations, and strategies provide the foundation of the Plan. Transportation safety, violence against women, and suicide prevention are mentioned where appropriate as being leading causes of injury; however they are not included in the discussion of prevention. State strategic plans currently exist that address these leading causes of unintentional and intentional injury.
