Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)


To new organizations interested in participating in the SFSP: In order to help determine that an organization meets the SFSP standards of viability, accountability and capability, VDH requires that 1st year organizations participating in the SFSP do so as feeding sites.

To All SFSP FY15 Sponsors:

Any organization or school division interested in starting, expanding, or strengthening their involvement with the USDA Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is invited to apply.  Grants up to $3,000 will be awarded. Applications that receive full funding will align with the No Kid Hungry Campaign’s goals of access, education, and awareness as outlined on the No Kid Hungry website at www.nokidhungry.org. Please visit grants.nokidhungry.org/ for more information and, if you choose to apply, please use code VASUMMER2015 to create an account and file the grant application.

Description

SFSP provides federal funding to eligible sponsor organizations to provide meals and snacks to children during the summer months when school is not in session. SFSP sponsor organizations can be a school, camp, governmental entity, private non-profit organization, or a college participating in the National Youth Sports Program. Nationally, SFSP serves 2 million children a day.

Regulations

SFSP is authorized under section 13 of the National School Lunch Act (42 U.S.C. 1761). Program regulations are issued by the USDA under 7 CFR part 225.
